The Art of Procrastination.

Hey guys, long time no speak… sorry about that!

It’s been way too long since I last wrote a blog post – I’ve just been majorly occupied with Uni work and revising for upcoming exams (Oh the joy!), but I am going to try and get back into writing posts weekly.

Anyway, today I just wanted to talk about procrastination, because I am awesome at it. It’s my best skill but worst trait.

With upcoming exams but summer on the horizon, it has been ridiculously hard to try and find the motivation to really knuckle down to work and revising, when I can see months of time off creeping ever closer – its pretty much torture!

So today I figured I’d share my top five ways to procrastinate with you… I’m a bad influence, I’m really sorry…

  1. YOUTUBE, YOUTUBE, YOUTUBE. This is the easiest, and most effective method of procrastinating. I find myself settling down to start a hard days work of revision or essay writing and then I just think “ooh *insert name of youtuber* has just uploaded a new video, I’ll just quickly watch that and then I’ll start my long day of revising!” – skip forward three hours later and I’ve watched every form of video possible. I’m embarrassed to say I found myself watching Christmas – yep that’s right CHRISTMAS – vlogs the other day… It’s April… What is wrong with me? But yes, YouTube is so easy to get carried away with. If you’re in need of escape/wanting to try and block out the nagging thoughts in your head about revision/work, just have a “quick” YouTube session and you’ll find yourself still sat there hours later.
  2. An obvious one for you now – TV. Another easy way to procrastinate and distract yourself is to have a “5 minute break from revision” and sit down with a cup of tea in front of the TV. I usually find myself binge watching ‘How I Met Your Mother’ or ‘Rules of Engagement’ episodes. This is a great way to waste precious time!
  3. One for the ladies now – painting your nails. Not as time consuming as the first two methods, but still able to fill at least half an hour of your day. From choosing the colour, to removing your old nail varnish and filing your nails, to applying the varnish and then having to sit perfectly still for a good fifteen minutes so you don’t smudge them. You’re welcome, girls!
  4. “Oh look a beautiful sunny and warm day!” Wouldn’t it be awful to miss the opportunity, especially here in the UK, of making the most of the good weather? Going for a leisurely walk around where you live, or if you’re a better person that me, going for a run – it’s a simple but effective way of procrastinating, but with less of the guilty feeling you get after doing the previous tips (because you feel like you’re doing something active and healthy).
  5. Finally, create a blog and spend an hour writing, editing and uploading each blog post… ha-ha-ha… woops.

So there you have it kids, five ways you can avoid work and procrastinate till your little hearts are content! Please do not blame me if you fail your exams or assignments due to this post, I’ll be too busy focussing on the fact I’ve probably failed mine!

Hope this was a little bit of fun for you guys to read – I promise I won’t be gone for as long this time!

Hope you’re all well, good luck with any exams, and let me know by leaving me a comment, or tweeting me (@jessicarrr95), if there are any topics or things you’d like to see a blog post on!

Until next time,

Life.

Life. It’s the most beautiful, bewildering and cruel, process we will all go through.

Why does it take a particular event or incident in your life, to make you realise just how precious this journey we’re going on is?

Lately, life seems to be throwing a lot, both myself, and my friends’ way – don’t ask me why, but it just seems to be one thing after the other for us lately.

Maybe that’s how it works – the universe thinks, “yeah these guys haven’t had a spell of bad luck for a while, it’s their turn”. But the one thing that these tragic events, that have unfolded in the past few weeks has made me realise, is that life honestly is too short. I know that saying is thrown around a lot, but it really is true.

You never know when your time is up; be happy, live life to the fullest, forgive and forget, and keep those you love as close as possible.

Cherish every moment as if it were your last. If you haven’t heard from someone in a while, just give them a quick message, just check in on them – remind them you’re there. Be kind, to EVERYONE – strangers, teachers, friends, co-workers, whoever. You just never know what is waiting around the corner.

Please, if you take one thing from this post, it’s this:
We only get one go round at this game we call life, make it the best experience you can.

Smile, laugh, love and BE HAPPY.

Dealing With Negativity.

Afternoon, guys!

Today I decided to write a little post on the topic of negativity. Now, as we’re all aware, negativity, or criticism, is something we all have to deal with at some point in our lives, but what happens when it gets too much?

Around a year ago, myself and a good friend of mine, were feeling stuck, or trapped, within our social lives. After many nights of talking things through and trying to get to the bottom of what was making us so unhappy, it dawned on us that the problem was with many of the people we were surrounding ourselves with. I’m a strong believer that energies and personality traits are contagious; if you are surrounded by people who speak or think critically, in an unnecessary manner, it will inevitably have an effect on you. There were a few of our peers that always looked upon life as ‘the glass being half empty’ if you will, and appeared to enjoy moaning about minor issues they were encountering in everyday life, despite having very little to really complain about. On the flip side, there were those that seemed to hate others being more successful, or driven, than themselves. After a while, this negative feeling rubbed off on us, and once we had realised this, we decided to do something about it. We both decided to focus on us, our goals, our future, and how freaking awesome our lives were! Many people would say to cut out those peers who make you feel this way, and I completely agree if that is something you are able to do, then go for it. Obviously things aren’t always that straight forward (which was the problem for us), we weren’t able to cut these people out, but instead we simply didn’t get ourselves bogged down in their problems. We were there if they needed us, but we didn’t let their pessimism consume us anymore. Replacing the negative with the positive was the best decision I ever made, and a year on I have a more positive, optimistic outlook on life. I have also found that I can see people with those characteristics coming from a mile off now – so I know who to let in to my life, and who to keep at arm’s length!

Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself, people who make you happy – and return the favour! Support and encourage one another, and you’ll find it benefits you both 🙂

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading, just a little insight and advice that I hope may be of use to some of you guys one day!

Can We Be Friends?

I’ve been thinking for a while about starting up a blog or a YouTube channel, but it seems to be a thought that occurs as one of those late night, “I’m still awake at 2am lets think about all your hopes and dreams you haven’t achieved yet” moments (I know I’m not the only one who has those!). But within the past 6 months, I’ve decided to start conquering some of these thoughts that sit at the back of my mind… so here I am!

So… yeah… hi! Man this is harder than I thought it would be; I’ve been sitting in front of this laptop staring at the screen for some time, finding it a slightly daunting task to write the “FIRST POST” of my blog. It’s weird, we seem to put so much pressure on ourselves to ‘get things right’ all the time – why do we do that? At the end of the day, this blog is for me. Chances are nobody will even read this so I shouldn’t be worrying so much; that’s a trait I’ve been trying to rid of too – I love a good worry!

Anyway, for anyone that may read this, I just wanted to introduce you to Stumbling Around The Place – a blog that will be dedicated to this girl’s weird, wonderful and somewhat crazy ideas and thoughts. If you’re into blogs that talk about life, being happy, inspiring others, and maybe some beauty and lifestyle tips thrown in, then maybe you’ll come along for the ride (and I really hope you do!).

So if you made it this far (round of applause if you did), it was awesome to meet you and I’d like to be friends.

Hopefully we’ll encounter each other again soon.

Until next time,

J xxo
